The Makati City Council has green-lighted a significant PHP 178 billion ($3.5 billion) intracity subway project in the Philippines.
The PPP project involves the construction, operation and management of an 11-kilometer (6.8-mile) subway, which would include between eight and 10 stations servicing two major business districts in the Metro Manila region, according to the Manila Bulletin, the leading newspaper in the Philippines.
It will operate on a dual-track system and feature air-conditioned underground island stations that can accommodate up to six-car trains and service 200 people per car.
Infradev Holdings, formerly IRC, will act as the private partner and sign a joint venture agreement with Makati City, following the fulfillment of certain conditions.
The project will be the largest PPP in Makati City, according to the local government. Upon completion, it will service more than 700,000 passengers per day.
