PensionDanmark, Denmark’s largest labor market pension fund, has forged a cooperation agreement with the Port of Esbjerg, the world’s-largest base port for offshore wind activities, with a plan to invest up to DKK 7 billion ($1 billion) in development projects.
Port Esbjerg is one of Denmark’s largest ports in terms of space. It is also a major offshore port, a hub for cargo transport in northern Europe and one of the world’s largest originating ports for wind power. As much as 1,500 megawatts of offshore wind is shipped out of the port every year, according to Port Esbjerg’s website. Its annual cargo turnover is 4.3 million tonnes, it has some 6,000 vessels calling per year and it houses more than 200 businesses.
