Opdenergy has agreed to develop an 80-megawatt solar plant located in Jefferson County, W.V., for AEP Energy, a subsidiary of American Electric Power, which has signed a 12-year agreement.
The energy will be used to supply AEP Energy customers through the company’s integrated renewable energy solution, a long-term, fixed-price retail energy option that supports new, locally-sourced wind and solar. Once operational, the plant will generate more than 153,000 megawatt hours per year of clean energy.
“This project will be a very positive endeavor for both companies and the local community,” said Luis Cid, CEO of Opdenergy. “We will continue to work to increase our position in a market as important as the United States and to contribute to the implementation and development of clean energy in the country.”
The plant is expected to be connected by the end of 2022.
