Old Mutual Ltd. has acquired a stake in a data center in sub-Saharan Africa via its African Infrastructure Investment Managers (AIIM) fund, according to Bloomberg.
The investment was made in conjunction with Onix Data Centres Ltd.’s management team and will be renamed Onix Accra 1.
Bloomberg said the investment is expected to increase the size of the facility into the largest in the West African country. Connection will be provided by Vodafone Group, Comsys Holdings and CSquared Innovations.
AIIM develops and manages private equity infrastructure funds designed to invest long-term institutional unlisted equity in African infrastructure projects, according to the fund’s website. AIIM actively manages investments in East, West and Southern Africa and has $2 billion in equity under management in telecommunications, energy and transport.
This is AIIM’s second investment in digital infrastructure in the past four months.
