Oglethorpe Power to acquire two combustion turbine units at 660 MW Washington County Power facility

Oglethorpe Power Corp., one of the largest power-supply cooperatives in the United States, has entered into a purchase-and-sale agreement to acquire two generating units at Washington County Power, a four-unit, 660-megawatt, combustion turbine generation and transmission facility located in Sandersville, Ga. The seller was Gulf Pacific Power, an investment fund managed by Harbert Management Corp.

Under the agreement, Oglethorpe Power will acquire two of the facility’s four GE combustion turbine units, adding some 330 megawatts of natural gas-fired capacity to Oglethorpe Power’s diverse generation portfolio. The facility began commercial operation in 2003. The units, which are permitted for dual-fuel capability, could be modified by Oglethorpe Power to run on either natural gas or diesel fuel in the future.
