Octopus Renewables to buy nine European wind farms

by Kali Persall

Octopus Renewables, the clean energy arm of Octopus Group, is eyeing nine wind farm projects in Europe in a deal that could fetch more than €100 million ($110 million), according to several media sources.

The seller is Renewable Energy Systems (RES), the largest independent renewable energy company active in onshore and offshore wind, solar, energy storage and transmission and distribution, according to the company. RES plans to handle the construction, asset management, operation and maintenance of the wind farms.

The wind farms, which comprise a mix of operational and construction-ready facilities, are located across Ireland, France and the United Kingdom. Together, the facilities have a total capacity of 130 megawatts.

The deal will bring Octopus’ total onshore wind portfolio to 470 megawatts, spanning 21 sites.

Octopus said it is the U.K.’s largest investor in solar farms, which produce enough electricity to power homes in a city the size of Man
