NSW Government launches tenders for $1.6b motorway project

The NSW Government in Australia is launching tenders for a A$2.6 billion ($1.6 billion) construction project, according to Infrastructure Magazine.

The motorway project, known as M6 Stage 1, will deliver the missing link from Sydney’s south to the wider Sydney motorway network. According to the NWS’s website, the project will remove more than 2,000 trucks a day from surface roads and reduce traffic on General Holmes Drive by 10,000 vehicles a day.

Built underground, the upgrades will also enable motorists to bypass up to 23 sets of traffic lights on the Princes Highway between St. Peters and Kogarah, easing congestion, reducing traffic and ensuring safer traveling.

Works will include the construction of tunnels, ramps and a new intersection, along with a variety of other projects.

It will be open to traffic late 2025, according to the government of NSW.
