Northvolt, a Swedish battery developer and manufacturer, is investing $200 million to expand its battery systems capabilities in Poland.
The company will invest the capital in a 50,000 square-meter (538,195-square-foot) greenfield factory, tooled for assembly of cutting-edge, sustainable energy storage systems.
Northvolt said the investment will facilitate a ramp-up in the manufacturing capacity of battery modules and systems in order to fulfill contracts that Northvolt has secured with customers. The factory will receive its supply of lithium-ion battery cells from the Northvolt Ett gigafactory in Sweden.
“Securing battery cell manufacturing capacity in Europe is key for its industrial future, but what is equally critical is the industrial capacity for integrating cells into real-world solutions,” said Peter Carlsson, co-founder and CEO of Northvolt. “It is this that the new factory will deliver — sophisticated, sustainable energy storage systems to sup
