Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners (SIP) has unveiled plans to build North America’s largest residential virtual power plant in California.
Known as Resi-Station, the 550-megawatt project will feature a fleet of in-home smart devices delivering targeted energy reductions. These will be provided by SIP’s partner OhmConnect, a residential demand response and energy services technology company. At full buildout, Resi-Station is expected to provide five gigawatt hours of energy conservation over a single week—an amount equal to the total energy shortfall that caused blackouts this year in California—making it the largest residential power plant in the world.
SIP is committing $80 million to the project and invested $20 million in project partner OhmConnect.
