NIIF Infrastructure Fund II raises $2b in first closing

by Kali Arevalo

National Investment and Infrastructure Fund (NIIF), India’s sovereign-anchored alternative asset manager, has announced the first close of NIIF Infrastructure Fund II at INR 19,000 crore (approximately $2 billion).

The closing represents more than 60 percent of the fund’s INR 30,000 crore ($3.2 billion) target size and reflects strong institutional investor confidence in India’s long-term infrastructure opportunity, according to NIIF. Alongside the fund, NIIF expects to mobilize approximately INR 9,000 crore ($950 million) in co-investment capital, enabling investors to participate at scale in select transactions.

The capital raise was anchored by the Government of India and supported by a high-quality investor base spanning sovereign wealth funds, pension funds, insurance companies and Indian financial institutions. Global institutional investors include AustralianSuper, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment
