NEXTDC opens 20MW data center in Australia

by Kali Persall

NEXTDC has opened its newest data center in the CBD of Perth, Australia.

Known as P2, the 20-megawatt data center marks NEXTDC’s first Tier IV data center in the region. The 12,000-square-meter (129,166-square-foot) facility establishes another point of connectivity in the CBD for organizations to connect to the region’s major public clouds.

P2 is directly connected to NEXTDC’s P1 Perth data center in Malaga, and is also connected to Singapore and Sydney by subsea cables.

“We are seeing increasing demand for digitization, particularly in this COVID world where organizations are forced to think about their business models and working in a different way,” said Andrew Wildblood, chief executive, enterprise and government, at Vocus. “We also see the demand from mining, oil and gas customers in Western Australia, who are accelerating their digitization plans through fiber technology and requirements for data centers.”
