Maryland Board of Public Works approves highway P3, solar installation

The Maryland Board of Public Works has given the greenlight to a public-private partnership (P3) program to widen two highways in the state, according to a meeting document from Aug. 11.

The board approved a lease agreement between the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) and Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA), which sets up a leasehold interest for Phase 1 South: American Legion Bridge I-270 to I-370. The contract carries a term of 60 years, with annual rent of $1.

The board also approved Accelerate Maryland Partners to carry out pre-development work for Phase 1 of the P3 Program, known as the American Legion Bridge I-270 to I-70 Relief Plan. The plan will add privately financed toll lanes to parts of the Capital Beltway and Interstate 270, according to WTOP News.
