Maritime groups formalize JV focused on ballast water management

Damen Green Solutions, a shipbuilding company in the Netherlands, and Bawat, an engineer-driven company focused on Danish maritime innovation, have signed an agreement solidifying their joint venture in the development and sales of mobile Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS).

Bawat was founded in 2011 based on the development of an entirely new approach to ballast water treatment, utilizing onboard waste heat to treat ballast water. A ballast water treatment system avoids disposal of untreated water in seas and harbors.

Under the joint venture, dubbed Bawat Damen, Bawat will provide its system for treating ballast water, leveraging a pasteurization process that eradicates organisms without the use of chemicals, filters or UV. Damen Green Solutions will undertake the construction of these systems. The partners will share a joint focus on sales and global marketing.
