The Philippines’ Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) has granted environmental clearance for the $3.5 billion Makati City Subway Project in Manila, giving developers the green light to start construction by the end of the year, according to InfraPPP.
The subway project will feature 10 stations that will serve 700,000 passengers daily in the CBD of Makati.
The 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) project is being implemented under a public-private partnership (P3) agreement between the Government of Makati and Philippine Infradev, along with Chinese firms Greenland Holdings, Jiangsu Provincial Construction Group, and China Harbour Engineering Co.
The subway line is expected to be completed in 2024, ahead of its 2025 deadline.
