Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) has committed to invest up to $325 million in Atlas Agro, a green fertilizer company, and affiliated project entities.
Atlas Agro is building industrial-scale green nitrogen fertilizer plants in the United States and Latin America, which will utilize green hydrogen in its production process in lieu of conventional nitrogen fertilizer production utilizing fossil fuels.
Fertilizer is one of six hard-to-abate industries that make up the vast majority of humanmade emissions. What makes Atlas Agro particularly interesting, according to a spokesperson for MAM, is that the company’s fertilizer isn’t fossil-fuel based, thus making it a major facilitator of energy transition. Atlas Agro will produce competitive carbon-free nitrate fertilizers in agricultural regions as needed to serve local demand and reduce reliance on imported fertilizer products.
