Macquarie and Ontario Teachers’ acquire stake in Washington utility, Puget Holdings

by Kali Persall

Macquarie Asset Management — via its Macquarie Global Infrastructure Fund — and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan Board have jointly acquired a 31.6 percent stake in Puget Holdings from Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments).

Puget’s primary operating subsidiary, Puget Sound Energy (PSE), is the oldest and largest electric and natural gas utility in the state of Washington, serving 1.2 million electricity customers and 900,000 natural-gas customers.

The closing of the transaction follows approval by regulatory agencies such as the Washington State Utilities and Transportation Commission, and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
