Macquarie Asset Management joins La Caisse in ownership of Indian toll road trust

by Kali Arevalo

Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) has acquired units in Maple Infrastructure Trust, an infrastructure investment trust that owns and operates toll roads across India, from La Caisse.

Established in 2021, Maple owns and operates seven toll roads across six states in Eastern, Northern and Southern India through long-term concession frameworks. The road network has an aggregate length of approximately 3,328 lane kilometers (2,067 miles).

India has one of the world's largest and most diverse transport networks, with a road network extending around 6 million kilometers (3.7 million miles). As the country's middle class expands, rising vehicle ownership and growing mobility needs are driving increased demand for high-quality transport infrastructure, including toll roads and electrification solutions.

As part of the transaction, MAM has committed $450 million to Maple, which includes $150 million of additional equity earmarked for future acquisitions by Maple. La Caiss
