LS Power to buy natural gas power plant in ERCOT from Constellation

by Kali Arevalo

LS Power, a development, investment and operating company focused on the North American power and energy infrastructure sector, is set to acquire the Brazos Valley Energy Center from Constellation Energy.

In January, Constellation acquired Calpine Corp. from Energy Capital Partners for $26.6 billion, creating the nation’s largest producer of electricity.

LS Power said its transaction satisfies a regulatory divestiture commitment tied to Constellation’s acquisition of Calpine, with which LS Power has had several bilateral transactions to date. In March, LS Power announced a bilateral agreement to acquire a 4,353-megawatt portfolio of five gas-fired generation assets in PJM from Constellation.

The Brazos Valley Energy Center, formerly known as the Jack Fusco Energy Center, is a 606-megawatt natural gas-fired combined-cycle facility located outside Houston. The acquisition expands LS Power’s generation fleet in ERCOT, one of the fastest growing power markets.
