Lithuanian utility builds offshore wind farm in Baltic coast with help from EIB

Poland’s Baltic coast will soon be the site of a new medium onshore wind farm. The European Investment Bank (EIB) has agreed to loan Lithuanian utility Ignitis Renewables €60 million ($67 million) to build one.

According to EIB, the loan covers around 47 percent of the project investment costs.

Located 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the coastline of the Bay of Gdansk, the Pomerania Wind Farm will consist of 29 turbines and have a total capacity of 94 megawatts once operational.

“There is huge potential for generating energy from renewable sources in Poland, and this project is yet another example of how wind farms can contribute to the country’s energy mix and sustainable development,” said Teresa Czerwinska, vice president of EIB.

Construction began in July 2019 and the wind farm is expected to be operational in the spring of 2021.
