Kansas City voters have approved the plan to replace Kansas City International Airport’s current layout with a single terminal with 75 percent of the votes, according to news sources.
The $1 billion construction project took years of back-and-forth dealmaking, procurement processes, ethical complaints and calls for do-overs before finally getting the approval.
The airport scheme comprises a 750,000-square-foot terminal with 35 gates but is expandable to 42 gates, and a parking garage with at least 6,500 spaces.
The Edgemoor Infrastructure & Real Estate Team was recommended as the preferred partner to privately finance, design and build a new single terminal.
Local news stations report that the project plans to break ground in the fall of 2018 and be up and running by late 2021.
