Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore has filed a certificate of need with the Maryland Medical Health Care Commission to approve a request for a $469 million renovation and expansion project, according to local news sources.
Johns Hopkins want to renovate two existing hospitals and build a new seven-story inpatient hospital. The new hospital will include 158 private rooms, four new operating rooms, a helipad and a parking garage, among other things.
The project aligns with Johns Hopkins’ previous modernized, renovation and construction projects, including the $1.1 billion Johns Hopkins complex that opened in 2012.
Medical center officials said in the filing that the current outdated space is too small to perform certain procedures and creates a logjam of patients, making modernization essential. If the project is approved, renovations and new construction are projected to take up to nine years to complete.
