John Ritter has been appointed managing director and head of real assets at the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS).
Ritter was previously a managing director at the University of California Regents, where he managed a team of investment professionals focused on real assets. According to his LinkedIn page, Ritter also was the director – energy and natural resources at the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, where he underwrote more than $5 billion in private equity investments and reviewed more than 100 direct and co-investment opportunities.
Prior to that role, Ritter was investment manager, senior investment manager and a director of other real assets (OTR) at Texas TRS, where he reorganized the pension fund’s initial private markets foray from real estate into OTR from 2007 to 2012.
TMRS has a 6 percent allocation to infrastructure.
