Ireland’s National Transport Authority (NTA) and Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) have announced details of a preferred route for MetroLink, a €3 billion ($3.7 billion) underground metro line for Dublin, which will provide a rail connection to the city’s international airport for the first time.
The proposed 26 kilometer (16 mile) route will run from Estuary, north of Swords in the north of the city, to Sandyford in the south, serving Dublin Airport and the City Centre.
The line will have 25 stations, 15 of which will be new metro stations, and is forecast to carry 15,000 passengers per hour per direction at peak times.
Public consultation on the project gets under way immediately, with MetroLink scheduled to be operational in 2027.
