Renewable developer Invenergy has reached commercial operations for its 160-megawatt Southern Oak Solar Energy Center in Georgia, the firm’s largest solar project to date.
Southern Oak is Invenergy’s 100th project to reach commercial operations, and its second project to deploy bifacial solar panels, a technology that increases efficiency by capturing additional sunlight within the same project footprint.
The company’s first project to use bifacial solar panels was the 74-megawatt Wilkinson Solar project in North Carolina, which began commercial operations near the end of 2019.
According to Invenergy, Southern Oak is expected to generate more than $12 million in local economic developments in its first 10 years of operations alone.
Renewable Energy Systems (RES) constructed the project for Invenergy.
Invenergy will maintain ownership of Southern Oak and has signed a 30-year contract to sell 100 percent of the energy and renewable attributes f
