Innova Renewables has signed a 40-year power-purchase agreement (PPA) with Dwr Cymru, also known as Welsh Water — the sixth largest of 10 regulated water and sewerage companies in England and Wales.
Under the PPA, Dwr Cymru’s Five Fords sewage treatment works will be powered with locally sourced renewable energy generated from Innova’s Wrexham and Cefn solar farms for the next 40 years.
Wrexham Solar Park was granted planning consent in November 2022, with Cefn Park, which is located in the same area, following closely behind to achieve planning consent in March 2023. Construction is due to begin shortly. Combined, the sites will have a total project capacity of 15 megawatts-peak, some of which will be used to power the sewage treatment works. Excess electricity generated from the sites will be used to power other sites owned by Dwr Cymru.
