Infrastructure Australia (IA) has added five new projects to its Infrastructure Priority List, a pipeline of nationally-significant investment opportunities mapped out for the near, medium and long-term.
The projects include:
- Gold Coast Light Rail: Stage 3A
- Bruce Highway — Cooroy to Curra Section D: Woondum to Curra
- Bruce Highway — Deception Bay Road Interchange Upgrade
- Bruce Highway — Maroochydore Road Interchange Project
- Nowra Bridge Project
The first four projects, located in Queensland, were announced together on Sept. 10, and have a combined value of more than $2 billion.
“We are pleased to see Queensland’s strong pipeline of business case submissions to Infrastructure Australia continue,” said Romilly Madew, chief executive of infrastructure Australia. “The addition of Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3A and three sections of the Bruce Highway upgrade means we now have over $6 billion worth of nationally-significant projects for Queensland on the Infrastructure Priority List to support growth and deliver sustained community benefits.”
The Gold Coast Light Rail: Stage 3A project would extend the light rail approximately 6.7 kilometers (4.1 miles) south to Burleigh Heads, including eight new light rail stops. The project also involves substantial levels of urban renewal, including potential land use zoning changes within the Stage 3A corridor.
The Bruce Highway projects address safety and congestion issues in several different areas by upgrading sections of highway, interchanges, and intersections as well as reconfiguring entry and exit ramps, widening underpasses and constructing service roads.
On Sept. 10 IA also added the Nowra Bridge Project to the list, which involves the construction of a new four-lane bridge to the west of the existing bridges, which would become the new crossing for northbound traffic. The existing northbound bridge would be converted for southbound traffic, allowing the older southbound bridge to be repurposed.
The 2020 Infrastructure Priority List, currently under development, is due to be released early next year.
