Oil and Natural Gas Corp. (ONGC), India's largest oil and gas producer, is considering offshore wind opportunities in an effort to beef up its renewable-energy portfolio, according to The Economic Times India.
ONGC, which has oil and gas fields in the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal, is now looking to set up wind turbines for electricity generation, and already has commissioned a study for a pilot project to explore opportunities in offshore wind.
India’s government is targeting 5 gigawatts of offshore wind installations by 2022, and 30 gigawatts by 2030. IREI understands ONGC is considering renewable-energy investments in India and abroad.
