Indian Energy, a microgrid developer, systems integrator, owner and operator based in Southern California, has completed the financial close of the Viejas Enterprise Microgrid in in Alpine, Calif.
The microgrid is composed of a 15-megawatt dc carport solar array and 70 megawatt-hours of nonlithium long-duration energy storage, located on the lands of the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians. Indian Energy said his project represents the largest California Energy Commission (CEC) grant for a tribal project of $43.3 million and is the first closed loan guarantee through the Tribal Energy Financing Program from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Loan Programs Office of $72.8 million.
Allen Cadreau, CEO of Indian Energy, said the closing of this syndicated financial transaction was not without its challenges and is a testament to the commitment of all the parties involved.
