Illinois Teachers’ throws $200m commitment behind Brookfield’s latest infra debt fund

by Kali Persall

The Teachers’ Retirement System of the State of Illinois recently committed $200 million to Brookfield Infrastructure Debt Fund IV (BID IV), IREI has learned.

Illinois Teachers’ joins the Maine Public Employees Retirement System as an investor in BID IV, with the latter pension fund having committed $100 million to the fund in 2024.

BID IV will focus on renewable-energy transactions primarily in the United States and Europe, providing mezzanine debt for core assets. Although a fundraising target for BID IV could not be determined at the time of publication, the previous fund in the series closed in November 2023 with more than $6 billion of capital.

Illinois Teachers’ could not be reached to comment on its investment activity at the time of publication.
