London-based IG Renewables has secured planning permission for the 28-megawatts-peak Nickerlands Solar Farm near Ongar, Essex, in England, in partnership with the local developer Anglo Renewables.
Covering approximately 26 hectares (64 acres), Nickerlands Solar Farm represents the first planning approval of its 3-gigawatt pipeline of solar, onshore wind and battery storage projects across England, Wales and Scotland. With an expected capacity of 28 megawatts-peak, the solar farm will generate enough renewable electricity to power about 5,624 homes per year. This supports the Epping Forest District Council’s commitment to becoming a carbon-neutral district by 2030 and the U.K. government’s strategy to achieve clean power by 2030.
Nickerlands Solar Farm also was designed with a high focus on enhancing local biodiversity. The project’s design includes the planting of pollinator-friendly wildflowers, hedgerows and trees, all of which support the restoration and biodi
