IEA calls for greater international cooperation to meet climate goals

Although there has been an increase in practical international cooperation in recent years, greater international cooperation is needed to get the world on track to meet its climate commitments, according to a new report from the International Energy Agency (IEA).

Without international collaboration, the transition to net-zero global emissions could be delayed by decades, according to the IEA. To address these concerns, the IEA’s first annual Breakthrough Agenda Report was created to align countries’ actions and coordinate investment to scale up deployment and drive down costs across five key sectors: power, road transport, steel, hydrogen and agriculture. These sectors together account for nearly 60 percent of global greenhouse-gas emissions and could deliver the bulk of the emission reductions needed by 2030 to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
