Iberdrola and bp are forming a strategic collaboration focused on the energy transition, expanding fast electric vehicle (EV) public-charging infrastructure and developing large-scale green-hydrogen production hubs in Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom.
Iberdrola and bp will form a joint venture that intends to invest as much as €1 billion ($1.02 billion) to roll out a network of up to 11,000 rapid and ultra-fast EV public charge points across Spain and Portugal.
The plan includes installing and operating 5,000 fast-charge points by 2025, and as many as 11,000 by 2030, including bp and Iberdrola’s existing and future fast-charging hubs. The companies also are exploring EV opportunities in the United Kingdom. The companies also plan to form a joint venture for large-scale integrated green-hydrogen production in Spain, Portugal and the United Kingdom as well as production of derivatives, such as green ammonia and methanol, which potentially can be exported into N
