Harbour Energy and multinational oil and gas company bp have agreed to develop the Viking CCS transportation and storage project in the United Kingdom. Under the terms of the agreement, Harbour continues as operator of Viking CCS with a 60 percent interest, with bp acquiring the remaining 40 percent non-operated share.
Viking CCS is a carbon dioxide transport and storage network located in the Humber, the United Kingdom’s most industrialized region. The companies said Viking CCS has the potential to meet one-third of the U.K. Government’s aim to capture and store up to 30 million tonnes of carbon dioxide per year by 2030.
Viking CCS is targeting first carbon dioxide storage as early as 2027, as well as the reduction of 10 million tonnes of U.K. emissions per year by 2030.
