GreenGo, a professional developer of utility-scale renewable-energy plants in Italy, has obtained the first single authorization for the construction of an electrochemical energy storage plant (BESS) in Scandale, Calabria, Italy. It is one of the first single authorizations in a region that is strategic for balancing the electricity market in the field of energy storage.
The Cuvelli plant in Scandale, which will have a capacity of 49.5 megawatts, will be crucial for the Italian electricity grid, helping to maintain the balance between energy production and consumption. Strategically located near Terna's new 380/150-kilovolt RTN station, the plant will play a crucial role in integrating renewable energies and stabilizing the grid through frequency regulation and the provision of reserve capacity.
The authorization of the new BESS plant in Scandale, issued 17 months after the application in November 2022, marks an essential step by GreenGo in the MACSE (forward storage m
