GreenGo, an Italian independent power producer specializing in the development of renewable solutions and utility-scale storage systems, has obtained authorization for a 120-megawatt/480-megawatt-hour battery energy storage system project in San Sostene, Calabria.
As one of the most significant BESS projects currently authorized in Italy, the stand-alone storage system will be connected to the 150-kilovolt SE San Sostene electrical node in Calabria and will interface bidirectionally with the national grid, charging during hours of peak renewable-energy availability and returning it during peak demand periods.
After acquiring San Sostene in 2024, GreenGo managed the engineering and authorization development to transform it in less than 18 months into a fully approved asset. Authorization was granted 13 months after the application was submitted.
With San Sostene, GreenGo brings the share of BESS systems authorized in the past six months to 200 megawatts and the t
