Green Energy Partners (GEP) has unveiled plans to build the nation’s first fully integrated green energy center on 641 acres in Surry County, Va.
The Surry Green Energy Center (SGEC) project includes the construction of 1 gigawatt of data centers, the establishment of a green hydrogen hub, and the eventual deployment of four to six small modular reactors (SMRs), each generating 250 megawatts each. The SGEC also could incorporate energy storage capabilities to balance supply and demand at the fully integrated site.
The data centers in Loudoun County, Va., alone use about 20 percent of Virginia's power capacity, while handling upwards of 70 percent of the world's data traffic. The Surry Green Energy Center is expected to provide much-needed support to the world's internet traffic at a site that is highly suited for nuclear.
GEP said the SGEC exhibits the ideal combination of clean hydrogen production, hydrogen consumers and energy-intensive customers (the data c
