Gov. Gavin Newsome signs new law to improve EV-charging infrastructure in California

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed legislation that would improve access to reliable electric vehicle (EV) chargers for California drivers into law.

The University of California, Berkeley, recently found only 72.5 percent of fast chargers in the California Bay Area were functional. The new EV Charging Reliability Transparency Act, which was sponsored by FLO and ChargerHelp!, requires the disclosure of reliability data for all publicly funded EV-charging stations in California and encourages the state to set requirements to increase overall reliability throughout all communities.

The goal is to help policymakers and EV drivers understand the performance of California’s EV infrastructure and highlight inequities in driver access to reliable stations.
