Google eyes giant solar/battery deal for its Nevada data center

Google’s plans for its new Nevada data center are making headlines as a potentially record-breaking solar deal.

The technology giant said it intends to power its up-and-coming data center in Henderson, Nev., with energy generated by a 350-megawatt solar plant combined with 280 megawatts of battery storage. According to Data Center Knowledge, it would be the largest global deal for battery-backed solar in the state, to date.

“Google — in collaboration with Nevada Power Company — has submitted the necessary paperwork to secure approvals for our Long-Term Energy Supply Agreement for electric service to Google’s facility in Henderson, Nevada. We eagerly await the Public Utilities Commission’s decision and have taken steps to ensure they have all the necessary information needed to complete their review,” a spokesperson from Google told Data Center Knowledge.
