Future Energy Associates (FEA), a company that uses software, machine learning and data engineering to optimize renewable energy and storage assets, has launched an open-source code base designed to help renewable-energy certificate (REC) registries adopt granular certificates (GCs).
FEA was funded by Google and Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners, in conjunction with Quinbrook affiliate Private Energy Partners, to develop the Granular Cert OS project, which lays the groundwork for a more precise, transparent approach to tracking renewable-energy and greenhouse-gas emissions. Granular Cert OS provides a system that is built to align with the EnergyTag standard and demonstrates the core functionality required to robustly manage the creation, trading and retirement of GCs.
The development of Granular Cert OS was carried out in collaboration with EnergyTag, a global nonprofit organization driving cost-effective grid decarbonization through the expansion of granular electric
