A 50/50 consortium consisting of Eiffage and JOHANN BUNTE Bauunternehmung has achieved financial close for the 76-kilometer (47.2-mile) A3 motorway in Bavaria, Germany.

The A3 project is the largest motorway infrastructure P3 project in Germany to date, according to InfraPPP.

Some €1.2 billion ($1.3 billion) in financing was provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB), as well as a slew of other financial institutions, including DEKA, DZ, KFW-Ipex, HELABA, LBBW, MEAG and MUFG. A total of €1.5 billion ($1.6 billion) in works will be carried out by the Eiffage Infra-Bau and JOHANN BUNTE Bauunternehmung construction joint venture.

A company known as A3 Nordbayern GmbH & Co. KG has been specially created for the project and will be in charge of the design, lane widening, the operation and maintenance of the project, as well as partial financing.
