GE Renewable Energy to supply turbines for 175MW Swedish onshore wind farm

by Kali Persall

GE Renewable Energy has agreed to supply 33 of its largest onshore wind turbines for the 175-megawatt Björkvattnet onshore wind farm project in Sweden.

The 5.3-megawatt GE’s Cypress wind turbines will enable the wind farm to generate enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of 175,000 homes.

Launched last year, the Cypress platform is the most powerful onshore wind turbine in operation, according to GE. The company has deployed Cypress turbines in the Nordics, Germany, Spain, Italy and Austria, and the deal marks its first entry into Sweden.

The project is expected to reach commercial operations by the end of 2020.

The project was developed by Vindparken and WindSpace, with support from GE Renewable Energy. French infrastructure investor, InfraVia Capital Partner, purchased the wind farm, marking its first investment in partnership with GE and in Sweden.
