GE Renewable Energy enters Chilean wind power market

by Andrea Zander

GE Renewable Energy has announced its first wind energy deal in Chile.

GE will partner with Arroyo Energy Compania de Energias Renovables Limitada. The project will supply six 3.6-megawatt turbines, amounting to 21.8 megawatts in total.

“We are excited to take advantage of GE’s 90-year presence in Chile and bring renewable energy to the energy mix. GE sees Chile’s energy sector as an engine for development, and we are determined to take advantage of our state-of-the-art wind technology to boost the country’s enormous wind potential,” said Vikas Anand, general manager for GE’'s onshore wind business in the Americas.

Currently, Chile has 1.7 gigawatts of installed wind energy capacity and 4.9 gigawatts of renewable energy capacity in general. The “Energy 2050” plan establishes that approximately 60 percent of the country’s renewable energy demands will be reached by 2035 and 70 percent by 2050.
