Gatwick Airport to invest £1.1b in projects over the next five years

by Kali Persall

Gatwick Airport, the second-largest airport in the United Kingdom, has released its annual Capital Investment Program (CIP), a five-year plan detailing the airport’s facility and services investment strategy.

The airport is looking to invest £.1.1 billion ($1.3 billion) from 2019 to 2024, with £274 million ($329 million) planned for 2019 and 2020 alone.

The largest project in the pipeline is an extension of the airport’s North Terminal departure gate rooms, which includes the construction of eight new gate rooms, in addition to coffee shops and retail outlets.

The company said it is also committed to exploring how to grow sustainably, while supporting the local and national economy, improving facilities, and continuing to transform services for its passengers.

The airport transports approximately 46 million passengers to around 230 destinations in 70 countries, according to Gatwick.
