France gives go-ahead for hundreds of renewable projects

by Kali Persall

France has greenlighted some 300 wind and solar projects, representing 1.7 gigawatts of renewable energy.

According to Economic Times India, the projects include 35 onshore wind projects representing 750 megawatts of capacity, with the remaining projects being solar. They are expected to generate 2.6 terawatt hours of electricity a year.

French ecology minister Elisabeth Borne, who approved the projects, also extended the deadlines for several others that were stalled due to the coronavirus outbreak.

“The health crisis we are going through must not in any way make us give up the ambitious objectives in terms of development of renewable energies,” she remarked in a statement.
