Mark Canavan, an esteemed institutional investor with a history of superior performance and innovation across a number of asset classes, has passed away.
Canavan spent more than 16 years at the New Mexico Educational Retirement Board (NMERB) before retiring in August 2024. As senior portfolio manager – real estate, infrastructure and real assets and director of NMERB’s real return group, Canavan oversaw and invested more than $6 billion of alternative investment commitments through private equity structured funds, co-investments and direct investments in real estate, infrastructure structure, agriculture, timber, water, energy, and environmental remediation and conservation.
