Florida Power & Light Co. (FPL) has opened four new PV projects in Florida with a combined generation capacity of 298 megawatts and closes one of the state’s largest coal-fired plants, the St. Johns River Power Park.
FPL's four new plants comprise of more than 1 million solar panels. These advancements will further improve FPL's carbon emissions profile, which is already approximately 30 percent cleaner than the U.S. industry average. At the same time, FPL's typical 1,000-kilowatt-hour (kWh) residential customer bill remains approximately 25 percent lower than the U.S. average. Moreover, FPL's typical customer bill is lower today than it was during the year 2008.
Each of these four projects has a generation capacity of 74.5 megawatts, while FPL plans to complete another four PV projects with a generation capacity of 298 megawatts by 1 March 2018.
