Exelon CEO to retire at end of year

Chris Crane, CEO of Exelon, has plans to retire from his leadership position and as a director of the Exelon board, effective Dec. 30.

Exelon has chosen Calvin Butler Jr., the current president and COO of the company, to fill the role of president and CEO as of Dec. 31. Butler also will join Exelon’s board of directors.

Crane has been the company’s CEO and a member of the board of directors since 2012. During his tenure, Crane established a focus on workforce development in underserved communities, with particular attention on STEM careers for young women and job training and placement for work-ready adults.

Crane joined Exelon — formerly known as ComEd — in 1998 and was named chief nuclear officer in 2004. In 2007, Crane assumed responsibility for Exelon’s fossil, hydro and renewables facilities, in addition to the nuclear fleet.
