EXCLUSIVE—North Sky Capital invests in renewable natural gas project in California

by Kali Persall

North Sky Capital and Anaergia Services have broken ground on a renewable natural gas facility at the Victor Valley Wastewater Reclamation Authority (VVWRA) in San Bernardino County, Calif.

Work will be carried out under a public-private-partnership (P3) between VVWRA, Anaergia and North Sky and will use Anaergia’s anaerobic digestion retrofit to triple capacity and increase redundancy of existing digester infrastructure, according to North Sky Capital.

The partnership will retrofit the anaerobic digestion infrastructure to convert organic waste and sludge into pipeline-quality renewable natural gas. The project is expected to reduce more than 6,000 metric tons of methane per year, which otherwise would have been released into the atmosphere.

“The market for sustainable infrastructure has remained strong throughout 2020, despite the pandemic and economic downturn,” Adam Bernstein, managing director at North Sky Capital, told IREI in an exclusive interview.
