Euronext pays €4.4b for Borsa Italiana Group

Euronext has acquired stock exchange group Borsa Italiana Group for €4.4 billion ($5.3 billion).

From a financial perspective, Euronext believes the transaction provides a compelling value proposition for shareholders. The company intends to leverage its enhanced capabilities to improve European capital markets and serve as the backbone of the Capital Markets Union in Europe, while supporting local economies.

The transaction will give local investors, market members and issuers of each Euronext market access to a significant range of active institutional investors across Europe and worldwide.

Euronext said customers of both Euronext and Borsa Italiana Group will benefit from the greater size of the new group, its diversified business mix and strengthened post-trade activities, including a multi-asset clearing house.
