French utility Engie has agreed to develop a 185-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) park in the Mexican state of Hidalgo, according to Renewables Now.
The 869.8-acre project is named Nueva Xcala and is expected to generate enough energy to power 260,000 homes and offset 300,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Mexican governor Omar Fayad said this is the second large-scale PV project in the state.
The plant is expected to commence operations in early 2021, bringing Hidalgo’s installed solar capacity to more than 300 megawatts.
